After spending a good chunk of money, efforts and suggestions, you find the perfect color which suits your personality. Then it starts fading before you get to enjoy it. There are some basic mistakes you have been doing all these years. Let’s get to know them to keep that hue freshly done and vibrant.

1. Do you wait before shampoo?

Once you are done with your hair color, wait at least two days before you wash your hair again with shampoo. Most of the people use shampoo just after the color that is the reason why color does not set in well and leads to color bleeding. It is also recommended to oil your hair before washing as the oil will provide a protective layer around your hair shaft.

2. Do you use the right shampoo?

There isn’t any surprise that freshly colored hair is more prone to bleeding and damage. To make sure that color lasts for long, it is important to invest in the right shampoo. Go for a color-protecting sulfate free shampoo. Wash your hair using filtered water as the harmful chlorine and minerals will not come in contact with the hair color. Avoid hot shower as high temps open up the hair cuticles. They may also dry out and damage hair. Control frizz and seal the color with cool water instead.

3. Do you reverse the process?

We all condition our hair after a wash. But to make your hair color last longer, reverse the process. You heard me right! First condition your hair then wash it with shampoo. Take good care of your hair by incorporating co-wash, oiling and hair packs with conditioning ingredients such as yogurt, honey, coconut milk etc. You can also make the hair mask at home itself.

How to make the hair pack?

• Mix ½ ripe avocado, 1 ripe banana and 1 tbsp olive oil and apply this mixture from roots to tips.
• After one hour, wash with a mild shampoo and cool water.
• Repeat the process every week.
• This hair pack will soothe frizz, damage and deeply condition your hair.

4. Do you cover up?

Do you leave the house without applying sunscreen on your face? Then how could you be so merciless with your hair? Get a good leave-in conditioner that shields color from harmful UV rays, minimizing fading. When you go out, wear a hat or scarf. Do not forget to apply coconut oil before a dip in the pool. Limit the use of heat tools. If you can’t avoid, set it on low temp.

5. Do you provide enough protein to your hair?

Our hair is in dire need of protein. One of the side effects of coloring hair is the protein damage your hair goes through. Nourish your hair with protein using this protein mask-
